Walchand College of Engineering (WCE), Sangli, is one of Maharashtra's most prestigious and historic engineering colleges — established in 1947, making it one of the oldest autonomous engineering institutions in India. Part of the Walchand group of educational institutions, WCE offers 10 engineering programmes spanning a unique mix of Government-Aided and Un-Aided branches. Its Government-Aided CSE closes at 99.43% — placing it among Maharashtra's top 5 CS seats.

WCE's data has one critical structural feature: CSE and IT each have two versions — Government-Aided and Un-Aided. The fee gap between these drives a significant cutoff gap. Since WCE is an Autonomous Institute, all seats are State Level (S suffix) with no Home University vs Other Than HU split.

GOPENS Closing Percentile – All 10 Branches

The CSE Govt-Aided TFWS closed at rank 906 (99.63%) — a full 0.20% harder than GOPENS. This is the steepest TFWS trap in our entire series. The fee-waiver seat at WCE CSE requires a score harder than PICT Pune's IT GOPENS (99.61%). Un-Aided CSE at 99.07% offers a meaningful fallback at the same campus for 99.07–99.43% scorers.

IT follows the same paired structure as CSE. Govt-Aided GOPENS closed at rank 2,336 (99.16%). Two unusual data points here: DEFOPENS (99.28%) is harder than GOPENS (99.16%) — Defence category students competing for WCE IT are more competitive than general students, an unusual reversal. And TFWS (99.23%) is again harder than GOPENS (99.16%) — the TFWS trap applies. Un-Aided IT at 98.88% is the fallback for students in the 98.88–99.16% range.

Electronics Engineering is WCE's most competitive non-CS branch. GOPENS closed at rank 3,654 (98.74%). The TFWS data is essentially tied: TFWS rank 3,603 (98.75%) vs GOPENS rank 3,654 (98.74%) — a difference of just 51 ranks or 0.01 percentile. Technically TFWS is marginally harder, but practically they are the same. LOPENS (98.19%) is easier than GOPENS (98.74%).

Robotics and Automation is one of WCE's unique programme offerings — not common at most Maharashtra engineering colleges. GOPENS closed at rank 5,452 (98.15%). As an Un-Aided programme, no TFWS is offered. The EWS category seat carried to Stage II (Round II) with rank 133,710 (42.22%) — indicating very low demand from EWS students specifically. LSEBCS also had a Stage II entry, suggesting some seats weren't filled in Round I.

LOPENS (97.64%) is notably easier than GOPENS (98.15%), suggesting fewer top-scoring female candidates target Robotics & Automation compared to CS/IT.

AI & Machine Learning is WCE's newest Un-Aided programme. GOPENS closed at rank 3,723 (98.71%) — more competitive than Robotics & Automation by 0.56%, reflecting stronger market demand for AI programmes. No TFWS for this Un-Aided branch. LOPENS (98.33%) is easier than GOPENS (98.71%). An ORPHAN category entry at rank 133,080 (42.88%) indicates near-zero demand from Orphan category for this new programme.

Electrical Engineering is one of WCE's core Govt-Aided branches. GOPENS closed at rank 6,077 (97.96%). The TFWS (98.58%) is 0.62% harder than GOPENS (97.96%) — the second-largest TFWS trap at WCE. LOPENS (97.56%) is easier than GOPENS. The PWD data shows some extreme anomalies: PWDOPENS at rank 143,290 (35.59%) and PWDOBCS at rank 176,724 (4.11%) — these are essentially unfilled seats or data anomalies that should not be relied upon for planning.

Mechanical Engineering is WCE's second-most accessible branch. GOPENS closed at rank 6,789 (97.71%). TFWS (98.23%) is 0.52% harder than GOPENS — a significant trap. The LSTS (Ladies ST) data shows two-stage filling: Stage I at rank 177,349 (3.25%) — essentially unfilled, then Stage II at 97,137 (63.08%). This means there was essentially no demand from Ladies ST category in Round I for Mechanical at WCE.

Civil Engineering is WCE's most accessible branch on General OPEN merit. GOPENS closed at rank 9,943 (96.75%). The TFWS (97.07%) is harder than GOPENS (96.75%) by 0.32% — the TFWS trap exists here too. LOPENS (95.80%) is noticeably easier than GOPENS. For students scoring 96–97% who want WCE's historic brand and campus, Civil Engineering is the most realistic OPEN pathway.

TFWS at WCE shows the same universal trap pattern seen at Terna Engineering College: TFWS is harder than GOPENS in every Govt-Aided branch that offers it. Un-Aided branches (Robotics, Un-Aided CSE, Un-Aided IT, AI & ML) offer no TFWS at all. The CSE TFWS trap (0.20%) is the most extreme, while Electronics (0.01%) is negligible.
