Pune Institute of Computer Technology (PICT) is not just Pune's best CS college — it is consistently ranked among India's top 10 autonomous CS engineering institutions. Established in 1983 and affiliated to SPPU, PICT has produced alumni at Google, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Amazon, and top global research labs. Its MHT CET cutoffs confirm its extraordinary status: every single branch at PICT closes above 99 percentile.

One structural difference from other colleges in this series: PICT is designated as "Autonomous Institute" as its Home University in CAP. This means there is no Home University vs Other Than HU split — all seats are at State Level (S suffix). Every MHT CET student across Maharashtra competes for the same pool. There are no separate Pune-area seats or Mumbai-area seats. GOPENS means General OPEN State Level.

GOPENS Closing Percentile – All 5 Branches

No autonomous college in Maharashtra — not DJSCE, not VIT Pune, not COEP — can claim what PICT claims: all five branches require 99%+ percentile for General OPEN. This places PICT in an entirely different competitive tier from every other institution in this series. Here are the five numbers that define PICT 2024-25:

Since PICT is an Autonomous Institute with no university-area home jurisdiction, all categories carry the "S" (State Level) suffix. There is no GOPENH/GOPENO distinction. All Maharashtra candidates compete in the same pool for each category.

GOPENS closed at rank 577 (99.7548 percentile). Only 576 students in all of Maharashtra scored better. This is the hardest CS seat accessible via MHT CET CAP — harder than DJSCE CSE, harder than COEP CS, harder than any other publicly accessible CS programme in the state. At this level, a single mark in MHT CET can separate hundreds of ranks.

The category data is equally extraordinary. GOBCS (OBC) closed at rank 897 (99.63%) — harder than DJSCE CSE OPEN. GSEBCS (SEBC) at rank 1,262 (99.51%) beats DJSCE CSE. EWS at rank 1,381 (99.47%) also beats DJSCE CSE. LOPENS (Ladies OPEN) at rank 767 (99.69%) is slightly easier than GOPENS, consistent with lower female representation at this extreme percentile level.

TFWS (rank 608, 99.74%) is marginally easier than GOPENS (rank 577, 99.75%) — so TFWS is essentially the same as OPEN for CE. No meaningful TFWS advantage exists here.

PICT IT closed at rank 954 (99.61 percentile) for General OPEN — still harder than DJSCE CSE (99.44%). LOPENS at rank 1,506 (99.43%) gives female candidates a clearer differentiation from GOPENS than at CE. The OBC category (rank 1,230, 99.52%) is again extremely competitive. TFWS at rank 1,066 (99.57%) is slightly easier than GOPENS (99.61%) — one of the few branches at PICT where TFWS offers a genuine, if small, advantage.

AI & Data Science at PICT sits at rank 1,089 (99.56 percentile) for General OPEN — still harder than DJSCE CSE. LOPENS (rank 1,646, 99.38%) and GOBCS (rank 1,172, 99.54%) show close competition. The TFWS data reveals one of this blog's most important warnings: AI & DS TFWS (rank 862, 99.65%) is harder than GOPENS (rank 1,089, 99.56%). TFWS trap is in full effect.

Electronics and Computer Engineering is PICT's hardware-software hybrid — covering VLSI design, embedded systems, IoT, and computer architecture alongside CS fundamentals. GOPENS closed at rank 1,431 (99.45%) — virtually identical to DJSCE CSE (99.44%). This branch is ideal for students who want to build careers at the intersection of hardware and software: semiconductor design, SoC development, and systems engineering.

LOPENS (rank 2,117, 99.23%) is noticeably easier than GOPENS (99.45%) — the largest LOPENS-GOPENS gap at PICT. TFWS (rank 1,310, 99.49%) is harder than GOPENS (99.45%) — the second TFWS trap at PICT.

E&TC is PICT's most accessible branch — but "most accessible at PICT" still means rank 2,092 (99.24 percentile). This branch covers signals, communications, VLSI, and antenna systems and leads to careers in telecom, defence electronics, and communication hardware. LOPENS (rank 2,897, 98.97%) is again easier than GOPENS. TFWS (rank 2,283, 99.18%) is slightly easier than GOPENS (99.24%) — unlike AI DS and ECE, E&TC TFWS does not trap aspirants.

Unlike Terna Engineering College where TFWS was consistently harder than OPEN, PICT shows a mixed pattern. TFWS is a trap for two branches and slightly easier for three. Since all differences are within 0.1–0.2 percentile at this elite level, even "easier" TFWS should not be treated as a significantly lower bar. But the direction matters for strategy:
