MHT-CET 2026 Document Verification Checklist — Every Document You Need for CAP Round
By Pushpak Patil · Updated: April 20, 2026 · 8 min read
Missing even one document during MHT-CET CAP Round verification can delay your admission — or worse, cost you your allotted seat. Every year, students arrive at Facilitation Centers or at their allotted college missing a certificate, a photocopy, or an attestation, and face last-minute panic.
This checklist covers every document you need — organized by category, stage, and verification type — so you can walk into any CAP Round step fully prepared.
🔴 Important: Always carry both original documents AND self-attested photocopies of every document. Most verification centers require you to submit photocopies and return originals. A common mistake is bringing only photocopies and not having the originals for cross-verification.
Stage 1: Online Registration Documents (Upload Required)
These documents must be scanned and uploaded on the DTE portal during CAP registration. Ensure scans are clear, under the specified file size, and in the correct format (usually JPG or PDF).
-
MHT-CET 2026 Score Card
Official score card downloaded from the State CET Cell portal. Must show your percentile and application number.
-
HSC (Class 12) Mark Sheet
Showing individual subject marks. Must include Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
-
HSC Passing Certificate
Separate from the mark sheet. Confirms you have passed Class 12.
-
SSC (Class 10) Mark Sheet
Used to verify date of birth and nationality.
-
SSC Passing / Birth Certificate
Proof of date of birth. SSC passing certificate is accepted; alternatively a municipal birth certificate.
-
Maharashtra Domicile Certificate
Issued by Tehsildar or SDO. Mandatory for Maharashtra state quota eligibility. Must be in your name.
-
Nationality Certificate
Proof of Indian citizenship. SSC passing certificate usually serves this purpose for Indian citizens.
-
Recent Passport-Size Photograph
Colour photo, white or light background, taken within 6 months. Same photo used for HSC/CET is usually acceptable.
-
Signature Scan
Clear signature on white paper, scanned. Required for identity verification.
Stage 2: Documents by Category Category-Specific
In addition to the general documents above, you need the following based on your reservation category:
OBC (Other Backward Class)
-
OBC Caste Certificate
From competent authority (Tehsildar or above). Must clearly state "Other Backward Class" and the specific caste name.
-
Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) Certificate
Issued for FY 2025-26 (current year). Combined annual family income must be below ₹8 lakh. This must be renewed every year for continued reservation benefit.
SC / ST (Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe)
-
SC / ST Caste Certificate
Issued by Tehsildar or SDO. Must state the exact caste name as listed in the Maharashtra SC/ST schedule. No income limit applies for SC/ST candidates.
-
Caste Validity Certificate
Issued by the Caste Scrutiny Committee. Some rounds require this — check the DTE brochure. If pending, a receipt of application may be accepted temporarily.
NT1 / NT2 / NT3 / VJ (Nomadic and Denotified Tribes)
-
NT / VJ Caste Certificate
From Tehsildar or SDO. Must specify the NT/VJ sub-category (NT-A, NT-B, NT-C, NT-D, or VJ-A, VJ-B, VJ-C).
-
Non-Creamy Layer Certificate
Current year income certificate showing family income below ₹8 lakh (FY 2025-26).
-
Caste Validity Certificate
Same requirement as SC/ST — check current year brochure for whether application receipt is accepted.
SBC (Special Backward Class)
-
SBC Caste Certificate
Specifically for castes notified under the SBC category by the Maharashtra government.
-
Non-Creamy Layer Certificate
Current year certificate required (FY 2025-26).
SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class)
-
SEBC Certificate
For communities notified under the Maharashtra SEBC Act. Check the current legal status of SEBC reservations as it has been subject to court orders — always verify on DTE's official current brochure.
EWS (Economically Weaker Section)
-
EWS Income and Asset Certificate
Issued by Tehsildar or Sub-Divisional Officer. Confirms that family income is below ₹8 lakh per year AND that the family does not own land/assets above the specified limit. This is more stringent than OBC NCL — both income AND asset conditions must be met.
Persons with Disability (PwD / Divyang)
-
Disability Certificate
Issued by a government-authorized civil surgeon or medical board. Must specify the type and percentage of disability. A minimum of 40% disability is typically required for PwD benefits in education.
-
UDID Card (Unique Disability ID)
If available, this is now the preferred document. Government is progressively requiring UDID cards in place of older disability certificates.
Defence / Ex-Serviceman Quota
-
Service Certificate of Parent
Issued by the commanding officer or the defence establishment confirming the parent is serving or has served in the Indian Armed Forces.
-
Ex-Serviceman Certificate
If applicable — discharge certificate from the armed forces.
Stage 3: Additional Documents for TFWS Applicants
-
Family Income Certificate for TFWS
Issued by Tehsildar for FY 2025-26. Must show combined annual family income below ₹8 lakh. This is separate from any OBC/EWS NCL certificate.
Stage 4: Documents for Reporting to Allotted College
After your final CAP allotment, when you physically report to the college for admission, bring these in addition to all of the above:
-
CAP Allotment Letter
Printed copy of the allotment letter from the DTE portal for your final allotment round.
-
Online Application Form (CAP Registration)
Printed copy of your filled CAP registration form.
-
Migration Certificate
Required if your HSC was from outside Maharashtra (e.g., CBSE school in another state). Your school / board issues this. Maharashtra State Board students typically don't need this separately.
-
Leaving Certificate / Transfer Certificate
From your Class 12 college, confirming you have left that institution.
-
Gap Certificate (if applicable)
If there is a gap between your Class 12 completion year and the current admission year, you need a notarized affidavit on stamp paper explaining the gap.
-
Aadhaar Card
For identity verification and for government scholarship/fee processing (Aadhaar is now required for DBT — Direct Benefit Transfer — of scholarship amounts).
-
Bank Account Details (Passbook or Cancelled Cheque)
Required for scholarship disbursement — specifically the student's own bank account linked to Aadhaar.
-
6–10 Passport-Size Photographs
Colleges ask for multiple copies for different forms — carry more than you think you need.

⚠️ Critical Reminder: OBC / NT / VJ / SBC / EWS income certificates expire every financial year (April to March). If your certificate was issued in FY 2024-25, it will NOT be valid for CAP Round 2026, which falls in FY 2025-26. Get a fresh certificate from your local Tehsildar before CAP registration opens — the process takes 7–15 days in most areas.
Common Document Mistakes to Avoid
- Expired NCL certificate: Biggest reason for category rejection during CAP. Always check the issue date.
- Name mismatch across documents: If your name is spelled differently in your SSC and HSC certificates, get an affidavit from a notary explaining the discrepancy before verification day.
- Domicile in parent's name: The domicile certificate must be in the student's name, not the parent's. A domicile in your father's name is not sufficient.
- Not getting the Caste Validity Certificate on time: Some SC/ST/NT/VJ candidates apply for the Caste Validity Certificate late and face delays. Apply for it as soon as your Class 12 results are declared — don't wait for CAP registration to open.
- Uploading low-quality scans: Blurry or tilted document scans get rejected during online verification. Use a scanner or a scanning app in good lighting.
- Forgetting the Leaving Certificate: Many students remember all the big documents but forget the Transfer Certificate from their Class 12 college. Collect it before results day to avoid queues later.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a Caste Certificate and a Caste Validity Certificate?
A Caste Certificate is issued by the local revenue officer (Tehsildar) and confirms that you belong to a particular caste. A Caste Validity Certificate is issued by the Caste Scrutiny Committee after investigation and confirms that the caste claim is valid. For many processes including CAP Round, both may be required — or at least the application receipt for the Validity Certificate if the final certificate hasn't yet been issued.
Can I use my father's income certificate for TFWS?
The TFWS income certificate must reflect the combined income of the entire family — parents and any other earning members. It is typically issued to the head of household but must include total family income. Check the format specified in the DTE brochure for the current year.
What if I have applied for a Caste Validity Certificate but it hasn't been issued yet?
During CAP registration and online verification, most Facilitation Centers accept a proof of application (receipt/acknowledgment) for a Caste Validity Certificate that is still being processed. However, you will likely be required to submit the final certificate before or at the time of college reporting. Check the current DTE brochure for the specific provision for the 2026 cycle.
How many photocopies should I carry for each document?
Carry at least 4 sets of photocopies for every document. You'll submit one set during online verification, one at the Facilitation Center if required, one during CAP round reporting, and keep one set for your own records. Colleges often ask for multiple copies during admission.
Start collecting your documents well before CAP registration opens. Income-based certificates (NCL, EWS, TFWS income) typically take the most time to obtain — sometimes 2–3 weeks at busy Tehsildar offices during the admission season. Getting ahead of this timeline reduces last-minute stress significantly.
