CAP Document Checklist MHT-CET 2026 Verification CAP Round Documents

MHT-CET 2026 Document Verification Checklist — Every Document You Need for CAP Round

By Pushpak Patil · Updated: April 20, 2026 · 8 min read

Missing even one document during MHT-CET CAP Round verification can delay your admission — or worse, cost you your allotted seat. Every year, students arrive at Facilitation Centers or at their allotted college missing a certificate, a photocopy, or an attestation, and face last-minute panic.

This checklist covers every document you need — organized by category, stage, and verification type — so you can walk into any CAP Round step fully prepared.

🔴 Important: Always carry both original documents AND self-attested photocopies of every document. Most verification centers require you to submit photocopies and return originals. A common mistake is bringing only photocopies and not having the originals for cross-verification.

Stage 1: Online Registration Documents (Upload Required)

These documents must be scanned and uploaded on the DTE portal during CAP registration. Ensure scans are clear, under the specified file size, and in the correct format (usually JPG or PDF).

Stage 2: Documents by Category Category-Specific

In addition to the general documents above, you need the following based on your reservation category:

OBC (Other Backward Class)

SC / ST (Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe)

NT1 / NT2 / NT3 / VJ (Nomadic and Denotified Tribes)

SBC (Special Backward Class)

SEBC (Socially and Educationally Backward Class)

EWS (Economically Weaker Section)

Persons with Disability (PwD / Divyang)

Defence / Ex-Serviceman Quota

Stage 3: Additional Documents for TFWS Applicants

Stage 4: Documents for Reporting to Allotted College

After your final CAP allotment, when you physically report to the college for admission, bring these in addition to all of the above:

Document Expiry Quick Reference

Document Valid For Issued By
OBC / NT / VJ NCL Certificate Current financial year only Tehsildar / SDO
EWS Certificate Current financial year only Tehsildar / SDO
Income Certificate (TFWS) Current financial year only Tehsildar / SDO
SC / ST Caste Certificate Permanent (one-time issuance) Tehsildar / SDO
Domicile Certificate Permanent (one-time) Tehsildar / SDO
Disability Certificate As specified on certificate Civil Surgeon / Medical Board
Gap Certificate (Affidavit) For that admission only Notarized on stamp paper

⚠️ Critical Reminder: OBC / NT / VJ / SBC / EWS income certificates expire every financial year (April to March). If your certificate was issued in FY 2024-25, it will NOT be valid for CAP Round 2026, which falls in FY 2025-26. Get a fresh certificate from your local Tehsildar before CAP registration opens — the process takes 7–15 days in most areas.

Common Document Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Expired NCL certificate: Biggest reason for category rejection during CAP. Always check the issue date.
  2. Name mismatch across documents: If your name is spelled differently in your SSC and HSC certificates, get an affidavit from a notary explaining the discrepancy before verification day.
  3. Domicile in parent's name: The domicile certificate must be in the student's name, not the parent's. A domicile in your father's name is not sufficient.
  4. Not getting the Caste Validity Certificate on time: Some SC/ST/NT/VJ candidates apply for the Caste Validity Certificate late and face delays. Apply for it as soon as your Class 12 results are declared — don't wait for CAP registration to open.
  5. Uploading low-quality scans: Blurry or tilted document scans get rejected during online verification. Use a scanner or a scanning app in good lighting.
  6. Forgetting the Leaving Certificate: Many students remember all the big documents but forget the Transfer Certificate from their Class 12 college. Collect it before results day to avoid queues later.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Caste Certificate and a Caste Validity Certificate?

A Caste Certificate is issued by the local revenue officer (Tehsildar) and confirms that you belong to a particular caste. A Caste Validity Certificate is issued by the Caste Scrutiny Committee after investigation and confirms that the caste claim is valid. For many processes including CAP Round, both may be required — or at least the application receipt for the Validity Certificate if the final certificate hasn't yet been issued.

Can I use my father's income certificate for TFWS?

The TFWS income certificate must reflect the combined income of the entire family — parents and any other earning members. It is typically issued to the head of household but must include total family income. Check the format specified in the DTE brochure for the current year.

What if I have applied for a Caste Validity Certificate but it hasn't been issued yet?

During CAP registration and online verification, most Facilitation Centers accept a proof of application (receipt/acknowledgment) for a Caste Validity Certificate that is still being processed. However, you will likely be required to submit the final certificate before or at the time of college reporting. Check the current DTE brochure for the specific provision for the 2026 cycle.

How many photocopies should I carry for each document?

Carry at least 4 sets of photocopies for every document. You'll submit one set during online verification, one at the Facilitation Center if required, one during CAP round reporting, and keep one set for your own records. Colleges often ask for multiple copies during admission.

Start collecting your documents well before CAP registration opens. Income-based certificates (NCL, EWS, TFWS income) typically take the most time to obtain — sometimes 2–3 weeks at busy Tehsildar offices during the admission season. Getting ahead of this timeline reduces last-minute stress significantly.
